Smile Overlook Hotel similar to Hotel California?

    Hi!
Every time i listen to Hotel California, by the Eagles, it reminds me of the Overlook Hotel, "you can check out but you can never leave" and many more sentences in the song.
I know the song came out the year before Shining was published, plus Shining took a while to be written, so no influence either in one way or the other, but for me it s just a very strange coincidence, sort of a connection between the two.
    Great minds think alike?
anyone with me on that one?
anyway, i like the song and the lyrics, and i surely looooove the book!
Does anyone know if Sai King ever talked about it?
    Thank you!
And a big thank you to all the members who welcomed me, all of them.
    this place is awsome.

    Hi,

'We are all just prisoners here of our own device'?

    Very possible IMO!

    Long days and pleasant night

Yeahh, and ..."and in the master s chamber, they gathered for the feast. they stab it with their steely knives but they just can t kill the beast."
and " still those voices are calling from far away. wake you in the middle of the night just to hear them say......"
Like seeing Jack Torrance there, dealing with all of it!

That is probably the greatest thing I have ever heard in my life. lol i agree 100% I get that exact same vibe.I am glad everyone else agrees the song seems to fit the mental stress of the story. I am hoping there is a connection that would make me love Stephen King even more, and geez i did not even think that was possible. =) lol

I've thought of this too. Everytime I hear Hotel California I think of The Shining.

Yup, I feel exactly the same way.
Whenever I have this song on my ipod it reminds me of The Shining. It would have fit perfectly onto a movie soundtrack.

I actually never thought about this before, but a great comparison, nonetheless.

The themes of an idealistic young man losing his way amid of flood of decadence and execess, and an isloated, active imagination slowly deteriorating under the onslaught of a seemingly endless parade of "haunts" are not so very far removed from each other.
