    Default From Hell

For all of you Jack the Ripper and/or Johnny Depp Fans, I just finished watching "From Hell". Very interesting movie with good speculations about Jack the Ripper. It is a "must see" movie if you like "Jack".

I don't think they quite figured out who Jack is though and I did find it quite disturbing when it mentions the Freemasons and links Jack the Ripper to the Freemasons. The Freemasons do give him his just rewards, though, and I think it shows that what Jack the Ripper is about is not what Freemasonry is about.

My husband is a Freemason and I know all about the fraternity and I know it is a much more upright and noble (pun intended) group than many represent.

    Any thoughts on the movie?

I'm both a Depp fan and a horror-genre fan (what else am I doing on this forum you suppose?) but I can't say this was my of my favorites. Too many disconnected issues were melted into one movie to fit my taste and I was left with too many unanswered questions. An OK film, but no head turner in my opinion.

I quite agree with you that it wasn't one of the best. What I meant by "must see" is that if you're a Jack the Ripper fan like me and want to see everything about him, this is one of those movies to see. I don't agree at all with the conclusion they reached about who he really is.

I loved this one too. It's up there in my list of favorite movies really.

The ending was very harsh, and really hurt to see, but I really understand where and why it had to be that way.

It does raise many questions and theories about the true nature of Jack the Ripper as well.

    Good flick, either way.

Actually, from someone that has studied the Jack the Ripper case for years, they do not suspect the doctor as much as they do an actor and writer called Walter S.

I am a freemason myself, and despite the fac that they put a lot of the blame on us, I did enjoy the movie a great deal. It was one of the better adaptations of the events than others that had been put out.

I've seen it a couple of times before. I thought it was an entertaining enough movie and I thought that Johnny played the title character (I've forgotten his name) very well.
