Very Confused!

I read the original version of the book many years ago up to the point where the main character wipes out the town.

I'm now reading the revised version and am totally confused. The Gunslinger tells the guy with the crow that he killed The Man In Black in Tul . . . I re-read this part several times and I don't see how this could be in ANY form correct.

Further the guy who speaks the same language as The Gunslinger is very much alive- but after sleeping with The Barkeep the guys been done for some time.

This is all probably explained later on in the book- but frankly at this point they're killing my interest in continuing on.

Is ANY of this explained?
