Default Another birthday and a chip off the old block

Well, in my time the clock has just turned over 12 which means it is now my birthday. I have had two cans of beer and half a pack of cigarettes, I watched a film sat at my computer. Would be pretty due to note that I have just realised it's been two years since my last girlfriend left me and I haven't had a night out in about 6 months - I suppose not having any friends left would do that to a guy. I'm still out of a job but my football team won yesterday and I might be able to get my camera fixed. I'm not sure whether I am unhappy where I am right now (it would also be well to note that it has certainly been on my mind for a long time; two years) or whether I have stopped really giving a damn. It's not all a bitch and a moan, but well it's the pretense that having a birthday makes you more prone to state what you have been brewing over since time out of mind but you only say something about it now, just like when you better yourself only when the New Year comes around. Officious, cynical and trivial, I know - but let a guy talk for what he can.

It seemed pretty cool to me that if I were in another country right now I would legally be a different age. Since I know this forum generates a large percentage of users from America, which would be another country for me, logic kind of swung at me that it would be nice to have a slap on the shoulder from half the world away. I think my profile still states my age, and I think from talking to a few of you some users here have some more experience with time in life than I, so I would like to ask a favor: what would you say to someone about anything?

Yep, that's right. Some people might ask what advice you'd give them about their life since you've already been there and done it, but some people don't give a damn about giving advice on something so fickle. Some people don't wanna give advice. But, some people do have something to say. If you have something to say to me, or just something you have to say in general, what is it?

Speak now or forever hold your piece/peace.

Happy Birthday first of all. If I have it right, you say you are a chip off the old block. Is that good or is it bad?

I would say you haven't even started living yet. If you are happy living your life as you have been, carry on!! If you are not, do something about it. Just takes one small step in the direction you choose. Frankly, I'd say forget 'the old block', this is your life and you can live it how you choose.

    Hi,

OK then, first 'carpe diem', seize the day and do your utmost to enjoy and savour every single moment of your life.

There's an old saying, 'Two men looked out from prison bars, one saw mud but one saw stars', always try to see the stars, Anton.

Oh, and a very happy birthday to you, may your days be long upon the earth!

    Long days and pleasant nights

First of all, whether you want to hear it or not, Happy Birthday. I'm not usually one to give advice except for those attempting to quit smoking (as some unfortunately know) but as for age, yours in particular, I'd try to be a bit more positive about it and let life take it's course. This, of course, coming from someone who'll never see 55 again. I think a lot of us have been where you are and made it through OK. Birthdays are not a good time to be contemplating the meaning of life (another piece of reality for a lot of us). You have friends here who can give you a boost if you ask for it. So I'm going to ask you something Anton - will you be there for me next May when I hit the big 60?

A Happy Birthday Anton! What a wonderful age you have reached. I think I am one of the oldest on this MB- so I have seen a few years- Yes John, I have a few on you

When one is a child, they desire to be grown up. Once a grown up they wish they'd lived their childhood more fully. When you get to my age- you either stop and regret all you did not do/ or you rejoice in having a full life.

Took me well beyond your age to learn a few facts:

There is no way to happiness- happiness is the way.
    and
Do not die with your music still in you.

Anton, live each day, grab it fully and experience all that comes your way- good or bad. Live in the positives, find good in everything. It's difficult, but can be one.

Who know what tomorrow will bring to you. You have a whole life ahead of you. We are hear on the SKMB and we are your "friends". Now enjoy this birthday!!!

Don't put your happiness off. Start being happy today with what you have. Don't place conditions on your happiness. Rejoice in today. And try to plan for tomorrow. Look forward to the future with hope in your heart, Anton. Happy Birthday. The future is bright indeed.

    Happy Birthday Anton .
My advice would be to take every opportunity life throws at you...and if there is nothing there for you then go out and make your own luck in the world. We all have choices to make every second of our lives and if there is something you are unhappy with then there is only YOU that can change it.
We only have one life my friend so live it well and try to regret nothing. I truly believe it is better to have tried and failed than wonder what may have been. Good luck with everything you choose in life.

First of all, thanks for all the birthday wishes. I feel alright today, mostly due to the pick-me-ups here and a song.

Terry, I will be here for the 60 celebrations, you can count on that (and I may give you a buzz when I decide to stop smoking).

I guess this song kinda encompasses my mindset, for today at least, and mirrors John's 'Carpe Diem'. You should all take a listen. Pretty darn cool video, too.
