Just finished The Gunslinger. Really enjoyed it. The part of those two in the cave or in the dark cave, i couldnt help but bring me back my first Stephen King book Cell, where (corect me if i'm wrong,) but they were in that dark tunnel for awhile! Now i'm second guessing myself was it The Stand were they were in that long tunnel in the dark for a good period of time? Anyways, great book but since i am reading his books in succession, its off to Different Seasons were it appears to be 4 great short stories!

Not sure about Cell, but Larry had to cross the tunnel after the plague hit and the lights were all out in The Stand.

i just found out there are two editions of the gunslinger... that might have something to do with it... anyways, try the drawing of the three. I liked that one way better then the gunslinger, if youre not hooked by the the first three chapters, dont bother reading the rest of the series.

Any book where they take a wee to water a garden is okey-dokey with me

I don't consider "The Gunslinger" to be a part of the rest of the series. It stands alone, like our Good Buddysai.

There was too much of a time lapse in the writing during which both King and industry changed.

I dig the other books, though.

Great point! I too feel that The Gunslinger is such a great story that it can stand well on its own. But of course, the Dark Tower series wouldn't be what it is without the rest of em'. I keep finding excuses to keep from finishing book VII though.. perhaps because I enjoy the mystery and speculation that comes only without knowing how the story ends :P.

    Hi,

You don't know what you're missing, missing, missing, though.

At first I didn't like the story so much. I read The Gunslinger, didn't like it a lot, but then I got DT2, and I didn't have anything good to read at home, and it was raining... So I said, 'what the heck' and started it. And couldn't stop until I finished DT7. LOL

Then I got the audio book, and started listening, after a while I had finished reading, 'cause I missed the story. Then I noticed how Roland seems so strong, and even sexy in "The Gunslinger". A perfect anti-hero, in my opinion. Love him!!
