Hi Sara
One of the best movies ever?
Not sure about that one. The vast majority of great movies, strangely enough, have no connection to SK whatsoever. But I would certainly agree that "The Shining" is one of a limited number of occasions where the movie just about succeeded in doing the story justice.
If you want to see a movie actually surpassing a SK story however, IMO, check out "Stand By Me" or "Shawshank Redemption".![]()
Shining was okay. But I like Garris version better then Kubricks version of Shining.
I liked the film, but I'd have to go with aptpupil on that one. As a classic it's fantastic, but I have many other horror films I'd list before this one.
I've only seen the Kubrick version but it is one of my favorite SK movies. It may not suit everyone's needs but it is a heck of a movie. I'm looking forward to seeing the newer re-make at some point.
I am re-reading the Shining right now and I find that the book has so much more to offer than the movie, (of course) I had forgotten a lot and really only retained the substance of the movie.
So agree.
I read the book for the first time back in 76 and the ending was the explosion of the 'Over look'. You did not have <what Im sure was not there>, the epilogue, telling of Wendy and Danny with Halloran, safe and' shining' still,at a seaside resort that Halloran was working at.Now I may have error in my memory, the book shook me so much I could not get it out of my mind for weeks. When I reread it in 95 I discovered the epilogue . I was so pleased at this alternative that I cant think it was memory. I wait to be proved wrong but the reason I was so affected first time around was that I thought that all of them were blown up in the hotel.
I dont think it is the best film ever but is very good!![]()
