Default Having a hard time getting into it

Not sure if it's because I'm too occupied lately but I've only gotten 100 pages in and haven't felt the desire to pick up and read. I usually like his darker novels... but nothing has hooked me yet. I'm considering starting on a new book. When my collection arrives I will find it very hard not to start on the Bachman Books.

    Is it a slow starter?

Yes, from my memories it did start kind of slow. But it picks up just like they all do! I'm pretty sure you will end up liking it.

thought it was a fascinating story and read through it like the others, as fast as i could. since then i've read it several times and haven't enjoyed it any less for having read it previously.

I'm having a hard time getting into it too. I'm sure that after a while I'll get into it though! I think I just don't have the stomach to sit through the part where they take out the body parts that were in his brain!

I have to say the book was given to me by a person who was not Stephen King's biggest fan but who told me it was an amazing read and an awesome book. So I read with great interest and was not disappointed in the slightest. Attitude and expectation might have had something to do with it but I'm so glad my friend put that spin on telling me about The Dark Half and was so enthusiastic when she recommended that I read it.

I really enjoyed this one, but as far as book reading goes I say: Don't force it. If you still don't enjoy it when your next book arrives put it aside and come back to it again. Just try to remember it's there or else you'll be missing a hell of a story.

It started slow for me as well, but it picked up after a while and it was well worth the effort. An interesting read.

I always remembered THE DARK HALF to start out quick – and if memory serves me right – which it might not – I read THE DARK HALF @ 12 or 15 – (I'm 33 now) and remember it being one of the most violent novels Stephen King every did. It was also quite exciting to me. I just finished 'SALEM'S LOT & am trying to decide whether to finish THE DARK TOWER SERIES or dive into IT for the second time as I remember it being one blistering good yarn. Any suggestions?

I can sympathize -- this is one of my least favorite King books. I read it for the first time just three months ago and although I did read the whole thing, over all I thought it was story that could have been written by a lesser author. I thought it had some really great parts, but there weren't enough of them to convince me otherwise. Ironically I was really excited about this novel when I started, but shortly after the discovery of the "tumor" I found myself labouring to finish. Conversely, I just started reading IT and only because I haven't read anything in a while. Within three pages my malaise was cured and now I'm planning my days around reading it. It speaks volumes, I think, of the quality; a quality that, for me, The Dark Half just can't match.

I still think the premise is brilliant, but I'm not surprised that others have found it's execution lacking the usual King magic.
