    Thumbs down the stand

the stand is my first and favorite. the first time i read it i didn't stop until it got to dark to read and i hadn't even been aware of the passage of time. it continues to be my favorite. i hated the film version as the vision in my head was so different. some of the actor choices were good (gary sinise) some were just terrible(molly ringwald). stick to the book and you can't go wrong

I agree. I loved the book, definitely one of my favorites, but I didn't like the mini-series or whatever it was that they did. Of course, I haven't like the film versions of any of King's books/stories except It and Shawshank Redemption.

It's such an epic novel that it would be near impossible to do it justice as a film unless you were willing to throw a LOTR-type budget at it, quite frankly, and bring in the best of everything.

However, as our society moves perilously closer to the abyss, it becomes more and more relevant as a story. A timeless classic, IMO.

I think they will make this into a movie... but if they do the only possible way to succeed would be to make a trilogy simply because of how much is in The Stand. It would also need a huge budget to succeed and not look corny. If they do they will need a director like Quentin Tarantino, Peter Jackson, Sam Raimi, or Steven Spielberg to succeed for sure. They will also need some bigtime action actors. Johnny Depp could fit in a role somewhere for sure. The point is this would be damned near impossible to give tribute to the book and incredibly expensive. They will need more great actors than they had in Green Mile and a large budget like LOTR. This is why I did not and will not watch that series thing, and unless i am impressed by the ropes they pulled for a movie, I will not watch the movie(s).

please please please not quentin tarantino! but i would love sam raimi doing a king novel. sam raimi is fantastic. he'd bring out the dark humour in bits perfectly too.
