I know they did ZZ Top's Velcro Fly in Lud, but I think AC/DC's War Machine would fit pretty well considering the messed up nature of Lud.

This is an old post to comment on - but I've been thinking recently that "No Easy Action" by Mark Lanegan Band really jives with Roland's world...

when they go back to save Stephen King, Prince's 1999 has to come into play, no?

Fearless Vampire Killers, The Regulators - Bad Brains
    Basillica - Jawbreaker
The City - The Dismemberment Plan
    Hang on Sloopy- Tommy James
Anything by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Red Rubber Ball - (can't remember who sings it)

I have yet to purchase any of the soundtracks. But it is a definite plan of the near future.

Watching SNL this saturday and the song Linkin Park performed first immediately brought DT to mind:

Waiting for the End (appropriate, no?)

"This is not the end, this is not the beginning
Just a voice like a riot rocking every revision
But you listen to the tone and the violent rhythm
Though the words sound steady something empty's within them
We say yeah with fists flying up in the air
Like we're holding onto something that's invisible there
Cause we're living at the mercy of the pain and the fear
Until we dead it, forget it, let it all disappear

    [Chester:]
Waiting for the end to come
Wishing I had strength to stand
This is not what I had planned
    It's out of my control
Flying at the speed of light
Thoughts were spinning in my head
So many things were left unsaid
It's hard to let you go

I know what it takes to move on
I know how it feels to lie
    All I want to do
Is trade this life for something new
Holding on to what I haven't got

    Sitting in an empty room
    Trying to forget the past
This was never meant to last
    I wish it wasn't so

I know what it takes to move on
I know how it feels to lie
    All I want to do
Is trade this life for something new
Holding on to what I haven't got

    [Mike:]
What was left when that fire was gone
I thought it felt right but that right was wrong
All caught up in the eye of the storm
And trying to figure out what it's like moving on
And I don't even know what kind of things I said
My mouth kept moving and my mind went dead
So I'm picking up the pieces, now where to begin
The hardest part of ending is starting again

    [Chester(till end):]
    All I want to do
Is trade this life for something new
Holding on to what I haven't got
I'm holding on to what I haven't got
I'm holding on to what I haven't got

    [Mike:]
This is not the end, this is not the beginning
Just a voice like a riot rocking every revision
But you listen to the tone and the violent rhythm
Though the words sound steady something empty's within them

Maybe Fade to Black by Metallica? As someone mentioned earlier, No Quarter by Led Zeppelin would be perfect.

I was listening to this song while reading The Wolves, and it matched it perfectly. All these books have a touch of the Western, but this one is PURE Western. The song matched the book in a couple of different ways, the colour red (rose), the bells (todash), the threat behind the lyrics. And of course the Country-Western feel.

he led you to this hiding place
his lightning threats on silver tongue
the red bells beckon you to ride
a handprint on the driver's side
it looks a lot like engine oil
and tastes like being poor and small
    and popsicles in the summer

deep red bells, deep as I've been done
deep red bells, deep as I've been done

it always has to come to this
red bells ring this tragic hour
    lost sight of the overpass
    the daylight won't remember her
when speckled fronds raise round your bones
who took the time to fold your clothes?
who shook the valley of the shadow?

deep red bells, deep as I've been done
deep red bells, deep as I've been done

where does this mean world cast its cold eye?
who's left to suffer long about you?
does your soul cast about like an old paper bag
past empty lots and early graves?
those like you who lost their way
    murdered on the interstate
while the red bells rang like thunder

deep red bells, deep as I've been done
deep red bells, deep as I've been done
deep red bells, deep as I've been done

I think the new song Pumped Up Kick by Foster For the People would be a great song for the first book The Gunslinger while Roland is walking through the desert with Jake.

Another song that just screamed perfect to me was Eddie's Gun by The Kooks. Ka? I think yes!
