Default Uncle Steve's Articles in Entertainment Weekly

I thought it might be fun to discuss Steve's articles in Entertainment Weekly. So, we will test it out.

This weeks article is called, "My Screen Addiction." It got me thinking about my screen addiction and if I indeed have one. I found that it was somewhat of a catch 22 for me. My work involves staring at a computer most of the hours at work, so does that count? I think it does, in part. Then I thought about my cell phone and texting and so that adds to my "screen time". Steve doesn't have a cell phone, so that doesn't add to his screen time. If I add in TV!!! Oh man, 7 hours at work, texting and TV. I'm probably logging 10 hours a day in electro-screen-glow.... I do facebook, but I don't twitter, and this SKMB thing sucks me in. I too have an info crutch called Google. I Google darn near everything! I may be in denial, but I don't think I have an addiction. If it came down to it, I could walk away, I think...

So, how much screen time do you log a day? Do you think you have an addiction?

Way too much. An addiction? Yes.

Per day? Obviously it depends. It's going to be a lot, though - 8 hours on PC alone. I don't have a mobile so that saves me some there, but I do watch a lot of sport (depending on season, fixtures, etc) and films. I'd say, on average, I'd log about 12 hours. I do know, though, that on a heavy day it'd be as much as 15 and on a light one, it's likely to still be around 9 or 10.

Well, I try to keep the internet and tv/movie use to about 3 hours a day. I try to read the other time until I go to bed.

On weekends, I can find myself on here for hours, or I may not even use it. It all depends on my mood, but I can easily find myself transfixed.

I haven't been on the SKMB as much as before, I've been busier than usual. But I try to at least log on once a day.

Hmmm, I'd say probably a total of 12 hours or so a day screen time. On weekends I try to limit it to about 4 or 5 hours a day, if that. But I often walk away for days at a time and refuse all things screeny. A couple years ago I went screenless (completely) for about eight months and really enjoyed it. But it's hard to stay offline for any length of time these days, for various reasons. I may skip a week now and then but I think, long-term, I'm stuck with the necessity of it. Addicted? No. Appreciative? Yes.

I watch TV and watch movies/dvd's about 3 hours a day. Then I am on the internet about 2 hours a day. I don't know if I am "addicted" to the screen. I think I spend time on the internet because I am addicted to Stephen King books and comics. I order and go on message boards because of my SK addiction.

While I was working on a cash register I had to stare at a computer screen for 8 hours a day. Then when I would come home I would hate to go on the computer because my eyes would be so tired and hurt so bad. I would much rather read books than stare at any type of screen.

Yeah, probably at least 12 hours. 8 hours at work, plus cell phone and TV. Even when I'm reading, the TV is usually on. I'm pretty good at zoning out and can read just about anywhere (unless the book sucks).

Don't think I'm addicted but it's so hard to not go on at all. I was actually talking about this to Autumnlyn this morning. I would say I spend about 2 hours a day for the computer and about 1 hour for the TV.
Jen, would Ms. Mod let us post copies of the articles in Entertainment Weekly in this thread??? I never get that mag, and would love to be able to read them!!

Hmmm. Doc's link didn't work. I am not sure if we could post the articles. Probably an infringement of some kind? They are really great articles. I was able to get 52 magazines on their website for $25. Not bad if you ask me! That's less than 50 cents an issue!
