    Default Little Women

So, I got an iPhone and downloaded a very cool app, Stanza, which lets you get public domain books in a spiffy readable format, and since I hadn't done so before somehow, I read Little Women. Outside of all the cultural implications, just taking the book at face value, I have to say I was really saddened when Beth died. I thought I'd read somewhere that she did, but then I thought I was wrong because although she had scarlet fever and I was expecting her to die then, she got better, but then pow.

    Hi,

Long and long since I read it, Todash, but I still remember that bit very well..

I remember really enjoying Little Men too, I wonder if these stories will mean as much to the upcoming generations?

Little Women is one of my all-time favorites and will be forever. I was so sad when Beth died too; such a terrible moment, and one I sadly relate to.

I think there will always be children and adults who love and relate to Alcott's stories (Little Men, Jo's Boys...) for generations to come, but maybe not as many as there have been in the last century.

I've always felt a connection to the era. I wish life now was like it was then sometimes; when small things, things we completely take for granted now like butter or ice or candy, were so very special and treasured. When it was a fun affair to visit neighbors or share books.

Miss Alcott's writings like Mr. King's are ageless and only require thinking readers to appreciate them.

I probably started Little Women when I was too young and didn't understand what I was reading.
For example,I was under the impression that Jo was singing the entire exchange between the 4 girls that begins "'Don't, Jo, it's so boyish.'" It seemed a strange way to begin a book so I put it down. Have never admitted that to anyone before; kind of embarrassing when I read it later, of course, I figured it out.
Had no such strange experiences with Little Men, which seemed like a lot of fun.

I've read that book god knows how many times, anyway it's the one book, next to Jane Eyre that the female side of my family pass from generation to generation. My grandmother has read it, my mother, my cousins, my sisters, it's one of those books that can bring different people together. I love it!

My mother gave me Little Women and Little Men when I was seven. I didn't fully "get" them until I was nine, but I have fond memories of re-reading both books several times before I turned 11. Jo was the character to whom I related most, given her habit of charging about and performing plays for her family. It could have been me that Louisa May Alcott was writing about.

My sister gave me Little Women when I was fifteen and I absolutely devoured that novel. It is a large hardcover book so I could not lug it around to school with me. I remember I could not get home soon enough to keep reading it.

In my mind, I was Jo March.
