I think it says alot about SK's writing that he can even make me feel sorry for a murderous dog!! It was the way he had the little parts from Cujo's point of view. Very very sad :-(
I have watched the movie several times and I guess didn't really think much about feeling sorry for the dog, but for some reason reading the book was totally different because it came from Cujo's thoughts too. It was sooo sad. I thought maybe I was the only one to feel sorry for Cujo maybe more than the people at times. I'm glad it wasn't just me I doubt I ever read this one again even though I love everything Stephen writes. I would rather be spooked than sad.

I really did appreciate the ending because all-too-often, writers don't want their readers to think they are too cruel on characters but they don't think of the reality of all possibilities. Taking Cujo as an example, if King was worried people would think he was cruel because he killed off the kid (i forget his name) , he probably wouldn't have done it but instead he was likely thinking of the story as if it was a true event. If it was a true event, the kid wouldn't not die just because it is cruel , anything could happen and I think that's what King was trying to get across in this story.
