Thanks for reminding me where the other club story can be found, guess I know what I will be reading next. Noticed that this story was dedicated to Peter Straub, didn't he have a novel that took place in a similar club? Does anyone remember? It's really bothering me.

I realize that this answer to your question is a bit late, but yes... Straub did have a similar club in which old men got together to tell stories. The book is Ghost Story and the 4 men are old friends who were involved in an eerie incident back when they were young. They meet and decide that they won't tell the worst thing that ever happened to them (which was the incident in their youth), but another story instead. Usually another frightening tale. So, not exactly the same but some parallels.

I loved stories told in Mens Clubs...sorta British and sorta cozy.

I love listening to old people talk about the past. Their so interesting. Even if you hear the same stories again and again. When I was a kid my Grandfather used to take me to the Elks Lodge with him to shoot pool and have some jerky while he had beers with his buddies and talked about the war and the 40's in general. Sure wish I had appreciated those moments more when they were happening.

This was one of those SK stories that I wished would delve a little deeper, but then I was glad it didn't! The club itself having many other rooms and entrances and exits? Could be anything and I wanted him to tell us some more about it, but on the other hand maybe it's better left unsaid and imagined about? I love it when he does that!

Yeah, I read this book a long time ago and remembered every story except that one when I decided to pick the book back up again. I realized I loved the story and wondered like hell why I couldn't remember reading it. Strange.

I just finished this story The Breathing Method and I liked it very much. There is a great end to it that I wasnt expecting that took me by surprise. It also made me feel sort of cozy indoors with the rain outside. It reminded me of a movie called Dr Terrors House of Horrors with strange tales from gentlemen on a train.
