Thrift stores are great for picking up a bevy of King books. Today, we were at three different thrift stores trying to find a computer desk for me and I saw the following (though only purchased the bolded):
- Different Seasons
- Nightmares & Dreamscapes
- Rose Madder
- The Talisman
- The Dark Half
- Insomnia
- The Gunslinger (Illustrated Paperback)
- The Green Mile (Parts 2, 5 & 6)
Also, interestingly enough, seeing as I got
The Talisman, I found Peter Straub's
Ghost Story, which I actually currently have checked out from the public library. Thought I'd get it so I could read it on my own time (the copy from the library is currently overdue).
Would have picked up
The Dark Half and
Insomnia if I hadn't already read
Insomnia and was waiting for all memories of the film version of
The Dark Half to leave my head so I can go into the novel as if I was not familiar with the work at all.
The Gunslinger's illustrations underwhelmed me; I loved the illustrated version of
The Dark Tower, and the ones there fell short. And the person that seemingly chose three parts of
The Green Mile at random to give to a thrift store needs slapped.
But I guess I broke my own, "Already read/seen it," rule with the first two books (
Nightmares & Dreamscapes and
Different Seasons). But I haven't read
Nightmares & Dreamscapes in ages and I've only seen the film versions of the
Different Seasons novellas, and even that was a long time ago.
All told, I have the following King novels yet to read at my disposal:
Christine, Rose Madder and
The Talisman. Which should I read first whenever I get around to them? I'm thinking
Rose Madder because I started reading that last year and was loving it, but just didn't have the time to keep reading it and never finished the book.
