And I have a really good question. What did the two dates in the very end mean?

It ended with:

February 1975
December 1988

That confused me because I had no idea what that meant.

Anyways that book was epic.

When there are dates at the end of one of his books, they refer to the dates in which Steve was writing it. When they are several years apart such as this, it will refer to when he first started writing and when he did a final edit before publication but he would have also been working on other projects during that time.
