While this one wasn't one of my favorites, I have to admit it was better than I expected it to be. It does take a while for the story to get rolling, but once it does, you know you're in for a ride. The ending alone is worth reading the rest of the book for - at least that was the case for me.

I have read 95% of King's work, and these are the only 2 books that i've had this problem with.
It's a really good book, but it takes awhile to get rolling because there is very complicated past of Jessies's that you need to know about or the rest won't make sense later.

I read this book as a teen and recently reread it and it still holds up - it creeped me out and left me thiinking about it for days after. It's worth it to hang in there and read it through.

This is a title I would like to forget, but it's there. When I bought it a few months ago, I started to realize that it reminded me more and more of a Tales from the Crypt I saw in the 90s about a bunch of loggers and their gruesome incident in the forest, so that sustained me. I also see that it came out around the same time as the book (interesting.) If you like King's excellent use of phrases to draw a plot together, this book is for you. It shows his mastery of the English language. There were things I did not expect (were not in Tales from the Crypt) and surprised me, besides wanting to find out about various hangers.

I enjoyed it a lot (especially when it gets rolling), but I wouldn't call it one of his best. Still a great ride, though.

I have had quite a few moments on several of his books, but with this one, I didn't seem to have any trouble at all. This is definitely a MUST read on the SK list!! Just get through it. Be a trooper. Trust me, in the end, you will be GLAD you got over the hump!
(I hope you read Dolores Claiborne first though)

I read Gerald's Game first. And I'm currently reading Dolores Claiborne. Is there a problem with that? Will I miss something?

I hope that you went ahead and finished the book. If not, I can only think of one good reason to finish it, (without spoiling anything), the first time I read this book, it scared me so bad that i slept with lights on for a week!! Every noise outside my windows made me curse myself for reading it.

I don't believe in fighting with books. Put it aside and try it again in a year or two. It won't go bad you know... And personally I enjoyed the book. If you liked Dolores Claiborn the book offers some interesting connections and the ending's great. That's all I can say without Ms. Mod sticking a spoiler button on me...

You have to find out how she gts out and what she does after. As well, she does change her attitude on a certain event in her childhood. You will be glad you slugged it out. Liseys Story is a bit hard and you do have to be willing to suspend belief for a while. That is why I think I liked it so much. It forced me to let go of the world for a while.
