Smile Duma Key - Favourite book of all time - at the minute

Duma Key is the best book i've read in years, not just because of the supernatural element of the story but due to the nurturing relationship between Edgar and Wireman and the effect this has in Edgars recovery. Beautifully written, to me it's not just Stephen Kings story telling that is amazing but his understanding of human nature, as illustrated in this book.

I dont understand what the last persons message meant re the irony of Edgar losing an arm, but am intrigued as to what you mean ?

dunno, either, gem. but i'm reminded of the statue and that poem by larry ferlinghetti, i am waiting, for that statue to be given back her arms. guess she never had any to begin with, guy ran out of marble or something, but i think the intent is there, all the same. yeah, duma is worth more than one read.

I always liked Mr King's insight of human nature. The evil in his books is human evil, never mind how many demons and vampires reside near by. The little dirty secrets people keep and their fears or need for love, all come back in perfect clarity in his books.

And no, I don't get the irony post either. Guess it's something only he can see.

It certainly made the top 10 list! I'd say more but gem pretty much said it all.

I liked Duma Key so much I started oil painting again after many, many years away from it. I am reading the book slowly as I live alone and I ger scared easily.....I like the overlap of several worlds: fiction, art, supernatural, and how the 3 main characters bond because of this.

    The character relationships were delicious
I was especially impressed because I remember reading an interview where he stated that writing about love and relationships was very difficult for him to do. I think he executed both brilliantly.

I finally finished Duma Key and it was great! Of course now when I walk my dog at the canal, those herons that live there seem a little menacing. As one flew off I tried to imagine what it would look like upside down--quite a scary image. Anyway, that was one hugely creative book. Powerful the way the Gulf can be, especially in, what was it, the Alices, the out of season hurricanes.

Yeah, I really liked this book, definitely in my top ten. The horror parts were very slimmed down, but to me, they were almost better than his other books. Also, I am sort of an "artist" myself, so this book sort of reinvigorated my passion for art.

Too bad I can't do what Ed can!

The general public seemed to think King lost is spark as of late. I know Lisey's Story, From a Buick 8, Cell, and Dreamcatcher all got mixed responses. Duma Key, however, brought everyone back. I think it is one of his finest accomplishments.
