    Default Writing Program

I looked in the boards and could not find the answer so I am going to ask it here. Ms Mod probably knows and maybe some of you as well, I am sure it's been asked before, but I just can't find it.

I was wondering what writing program Stephen uses, or is it just a plain word processing program? I know he prefers Mac's over PC's I do believe, and for me, I don't have the money to spend buying an apple icon, therefore, I am a little dumb when it comes to Mac software.

    Best,
    Bal

He uses Microsoft Word (for Macs) for most of his writing and Final Draft when he's writing a screenplay.

Him using Microsoft Word is a bit surprising. I envisioned him using something a little more high-end, maybe some specialty software that's out there.

I think Word is an industry standard for manuscripts. Unlike screenplays, manuscripts really don't require any special formatting other than double spacing so there's not a need for anything more elaborate. And the manuscript is not used for the final version--whatever magic has to happen to get it from the manuscript copy to the layout version for the printer is done by the publisher.

I was thinking more along the lines of an old fashioned typewriter

I just finished On Writing - excellent by the way - and liked the advice to read, read, read - whenever there are a few spare minutes.
    I have a tools/program question.
Do any of you also write whenever you get a moment?
Do you carry a steno pad and transcribe back into a computer later on?
Do you bring a netbook with you, and maybe sync later to another system, or do it all via Google Docs?
Do any type on an iPad or iPhone?

I use the iPhone app My Writing Nook, which works off or online on the iPhone (also on iPad), and syncs with a PC via a web page. Uses Google docs for storage.

This begs another question Ms. Mod. What happened to his old Wang?
    (Why is everyone laughing?)
