Default On my way to the Tower

I just wanted to say thank you to all of you who kept encouraging me to stay with The Gunslinger. I picked this book up, determined to read SK's magnum opus, at least three times. It seemed like dry writing, and there was too much I didn't understand. I put it aside three times. Then, I got the audiobook read by SK--and for some reason, his voice made my imagination come alive. I am reading along with the expanded version paperback I started with (the audiobook is the original version) and am fascinated by this rich world, not to mention thoroughly hooked. It took about half the book, but it was worth the wait.

If any other Constant Readers out there are like me: you owe it to yourself to keep reading, keep following Roland on his quest to the Tower. Trust me, you won't regret it.

I have the first four books--need the opinion of those who have read all seven. Is four enough to start with, or am I going to burn through these and get annoyed that I don't have the other three?

The first four should be enough for awhile, but I would buy the fifth when you finish the third.
Enjoy your journey! These are my absolute favorite, for sure.

Go out and get them all!! They will earn not only the best spot in your bookcase but win your heart too!!!
I think you'll "burn" through them and you'll be so mad to find yourself reading at 10:00pm at night and finish any of the following 6 books, just to have to wait till the next day to go get the next one!

Read on, and in the meantime try to find the remaining books. Those of us who read the Dark Tower series as they were published had a long wait between some of the books Continue your journey and savor each character and new adventure.

Thumbs up Re: On my way to the Tower

I've finished the last book 3 days ago.

Anyway, after I've read the third book I made a pause (for a year ) and read some other stuff.

Believe me, The Dark tower is probably the best thing you'll ever read, so keep readin' it!

It took me a period of 20 years to reach the tower....read the Gunslinger when I was 16 and just finished the Dark Tower a six months ago. How you travel is up to you...I thought I would blast through a re-read. I immediately picked up my dated Gunslinger and it was GREATNESS!!!! enjoyed it as much as I did 20 years ago. Picked up Drawing of the Three read a hundred pages or so and put it down...I will get back to it when it calls me. Until then I will read what does. Take your time and enjoy the journey...let it become part of your life.

Definitely pick up the books you are missing before you finish. It was agonizing to wait each year for Sai King to release the next book in the series; be glad you are able to read them all through, one after the next, without the lapse between.

    Hi,

Does anyone else find that threads like this just put you right in the mood for a re-read, or is it just me?

    Long days and pleasant nights

    So true!!!
This happened to me when I finished The Drawing of the Three and I could barely make it through the night!

You don't have to buy all of them, but at least have the next one in the series lined up and on hand!

I'm sure it's not just you John

I was already on a re-read, got to Wizards & Glass then found myself taking a break to read something else, this thread has now inspired me and I'm on back my journey (again!).

Oh, and I say get the other books now while you remember. You might get soooooo engrossed it could slip your mind (if you're anything of a scatterbrain like me ).
