King mentions in the book that "Cujo" is a nom de guerre of a member of the Symbionese Liberation Army. The SLA kidnapped Patty Hearst and, if I recall correctly, SK once considered writing a non-fiction account of the kidnapping. So he likely came across the name in that context although the media misreported the spelling which was actually "Kahjoh."

I liked Cujo- thought the way that it didn't have chapters as such, rather than just breaks in the story meant that it flowed really well.
