Default Congrats to the US 'soccer' (LOL) team

    Hi,

    USA 2 - Spain 0

In a thrilling football match in the MOTO cup semi-final in South Africa (kinda like a warm-up for the World Cup next year) the US football team last night sensationally beat the tournament favourites and European Champions Spain 2-0 to record their greatest ever result (well, since 1950 anyway).

Yes, they rode their luck and yes, their goalkeeper was outstanding but they nonetheless thoroughly deserved their victory against a team generally reckoned as the best in the world to reach Sunday's final against the winner of Brazil v South Africa tonight.

It was IMO a victory for teamwork, fitness and sticking to a good tactical plan against the individual ability of the Spaniards.

Last year Kim and I were discussing the fact that the US team has shown steady, if unspectacular, progress but no-one gave them a chance against Spain

So I hope America will tune in to the final at the weekend to support the US team in their first ever major final against either Brazil or South Africa, I know I will.

    GO USA!!![/B]

    Long days and pleasant nights

    Default Jesus in a sidecar!

I seem to think that's is a quote from The Stand. Nevertheless, it was my reaction to the United States' victory in soccerball over Spain, 2-0. Anyone watch this? If not, here's a treat:

i watched this, and i have to say initially i was a little disappointed because the prospect of a spain v brazil final was mouth-watering! but in all fairness USA were organized (if not a little undisciplined receiving yet another red card) and contained Spain very well. and one thing you failed to mention John was that they ended Spain's record attempt of outdoing Brazil's unbeaten streak. Not a mean feat at all

personally i'm going to shout for south africa tonight....sort of just to see the 'underdog final' and especially because it would mean a spain v brazil 3rd place play-off

and just a final note...GET RID OF THOSE DAMN AIRHORNS! most annoying noise ever!

It's funny how for most people in the US, soccer (football, whatever ) is elementary school stuff only. I have no insight into that as I'm not a sports fan generally, but I just think it's interesting.

I admit to being impressed when determination and effort beat out natural ability in any endeavor.

I was always against USA lifting the cup. I feel they dont take FOOTBALL serious so it would have been a real slap in the face if they won. Yeah that win against spain hurt.

Yeah, definitely wouldn't have wanted to be in the Brazil dressing room at half-time. Too many players wandering around seeming to think 'It's only the US; we can take them whenever we want' - only to go 'Ah, they're actually playing a bit, but still we...oh, they've scored'.
Nothing so sure as USA being world champions one day - if and when they take it seriously. Spaniards, et al, are made out to be better than they really are, I think, because the 'old guard' have got a bit complacent and it's the reputation, not the fact, that does most of the damage.

As for football being an elementary school game...well, Americans play a game called 'baseball'. Last time I played something similar, I was nine and it was called 'Rounders'.
We also play rugby WITHOUT the helmets and pads.

I was hoping that the USA would not win the cup. Only becuase no one in the country would care. This country doesnt take soccer seriously enough. The cup should be in a country that will apreciate it.
