    Default Moon

A throwback to the good ol days of sci-fi. A movie that isnt going to insult your intelligence. One of the better movies to come out lately,

I'm waiting for it come out to a theater near me since the movie is still in limited release, but I've heard it's a great movie. I've also heard that it could be a possible Oscar nom for Sam Rockwell.

Well, the director( duncan Jones ) is a cool dude. He sent everyone that participated in one of his silly comp's a signed miniposter out of his own pocket.

I went and saw this on Friday and here's the review. If you don't know anything about it, check out IMDb - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1182345/

Moon is a very simple film, yet brilliant film. It is sci-fi film and when I say sci-fi I mean like the ones that they used to make. You can clearly see that the director, Duncan Jones (who is the son of David Bowie, just a little trivia for you lol), is a fan of sci-fi and pays homage to them with this awesome debut. The story is easy to follow, a bit predictable, but never boring and very intriguing. I would call it a mystery/thriller movie more than sci-fi and it uses these genres well. This is a true indie film with a budget of $5 million, but looking at the effects and settings that they used, you could swear that it cost more than 5 mil. Everything looks so real so I have to give props to the people involved for making a great film with a incredibly small (compared to blockbusters) budget.

As for the acting, it is simply brilliant. This is a one-man show, mostly, and Sam Rockwell is amazing in this. They had to pick the right actor to star in this movie and they struck gold (or helium-3 lol) when they chose Mr. Rockwell. If he does not get an Oscar nomination for this then the Academy is going to look like fools, not they that don't look like fools already.

Anyway I left the movie feeling very satisfied and it was definitely worth the money I paid for it. So definitely go check this out if you are sci-fi or a mystery movie fan. It's an indie film, so it's in limited release (only 250 theaters in the US) so if it's in your area then go watch it. If not, then wait for the DVD and check it out because like I said it is a great film.

I saw this movie two weeks ago. Great, classic sci-fi, the kind they don't make much of anymore. Didn't really care much for Sam Rockwell until I saw this. Recommend anyone seeing this if it's actually playing near them.

Only saw this last night (on Sky), so I know this'll resurrect a long-'dead' thread (or at least will add one more post to it ).

What can I say? I thought films like this were gone forever, to be replaced by mindless pap and endless reboots (or are those actually one and the same thing?). Nice nods to other genre classics, but without ever being utter rip-offs - the inside of the base is a bit Nostromo like, but it makes sense for it to be. Internal logic hasn't been forced there.
Sam Rockwell definitely deserved a nod for an Oscar. That said, this is sci-fi, and nothing sci-fi ever gets the credit it deserves (here's a chance to name some exceptions that'll only serve to prove the rule, 'cause even the best tend to be damned by faint praise).

It seems like a lot of people still don't know about this film, seeing as it's a low-budget indie. Thing is, it doesn't look low-budget - probably thanks to the use of models over CGI (and models still look better/more convincing than CG work, no matter what the 'experts' say) - and this, folks, will do a Blade Runner: it'll take a while, but Moon will become a cult classic, if it hasn't already. And if it doesn't...I'll have finally lost all faith in humanity.

Not sure if this will reach the cult status of Blade Runner. It is a good film, and it deserves more recognition, but I don't know if it is quite at the same level as Blade Runner. I agree with you on the models looking better than CGI. What's the Nostromo? It rings a bell. Is it the ship in Alien?

I love this movie!!! The story is good, the acting is great and the (original....not all computerfx) special effects are brilliant! It really did made me homesick to all those old sci-fi movies....

I was a bit disappointed by this film. I was expecting a lot more. It was a while ago I watched it, maybe if I go back and watch it again with low expectations I love it.

It certainly aint no Event Horizon.
