I am happy to hear that the movie is no indication of the story's quality, as I felt there was definitely something missing from the film.
Have always wondered why the ends of movies are so vastly different from how the book ends - the way the movie Apt Pupil ended really annoyed me enormously - the book had a very approrpriate and excellent ending - a perfect climax to the story and the movie ending just feels so watered down, so "let's play it safe" - the book was so much more horrifying in its ramifications and the changed ending to the movie really impacted the story in a very negative way - why does Stephen allow changes like this to be made to his stories when they are transferred to movies? It's like the last Hannibal book/movie - the book's ending was fabulous but they rewrote the ending for the movie and it was disastrous - I will never watch the movie again. Have never figured out why screenwriters think they know better than the original authors - just leave things alone.........please......The movie Apt Pupil was a real let down because of the ending, it was like getting robbed......it quite put me off wanting to watch it again but the book, would not hesitate to reread it.
I liked the book real well. Found myself not wanting to put the book down. But with the movie was a bit disappointed. It was ok but really would pick the book over the movie.
