    Default Amityville Horror

I'm not done with this book, I started reading it today, and I can promise it will be done by tonight. I'm enjoying it alot, but I'm not 100% sold on it being a true story. Just wondering what everyone else's thoughts on it are.

My husband is of the opinion that they may have bought the house on purpose to make a story out of it?

They have debunked this story on TV several years ago. It is true that the family was murdered there by their son but that'[s all that's true. I tend to agree with your husband. Believe it or not I was born in Amityville way before the murders occurred. I was born in the hospital there and actually lived in Levittown Long Island NY for a little while. My younger sister has called me the Amityville Horror!

I read it several years ago, and I have seen updates on the house (yeah my kids watch sci-fi). I am not sure I buy the whole package. First house, mixed family, money troubles, I can see how it would be easy to pawn off a homicidal episode on a haunting (trust me), but there has been a family living in that house for 20 years without a lick of trouble (perhaps they are devil worshipers and the house loves them). The only hitch is whether the priests were really that severely affected.

I have never read the book, but I have watched the film. I watched it when I was kid and it scared the bejesus out of me. I always thought it was true, but after watching a few TV shows and reading some newspaper articles on it, I come to share your husband's opinion. Plus the people who reside there now say they have never heard or seen anything?

I agree, now that I'm almost done reading it, some of the things that they are saying I just don't understand why they would continue to stay there!

But, I have always loved the movie, and the book is actually a good book.

    Hi,

Aye, should never let the truth get in the way of a good story IMO.

I tried so hard to read Amityville Horror. I just couldn't get into it. Didn't the author finally admit that he was paid to lie? Or maybe I'm thinking of a different book.

I haven't read the book because I can't find it anywhere. But I would like to read it in future because I've seen this movie a lot of times and I like it very much. That's one of my favorite movies. And I always believed that the story that was shown there was real. I believe that it could happen for real.
