Default Hodder and Stoughton UK mass market paperbacks

Anyone like these cool colored SK paperbacks from Hodder and Stroughton? I think I may collect an entire range of it from them just because the color schemes are so cool (if you have seen them you know how cool they are).

Anyone a big fan of this edition of Mass Market Paperbacks? If so, do show your collection.

Ps. I will be posting mine soon.

    Hi,

Originally I hated them largely because they clashed badly with my existing collection, but I've grown to love them too, and there's no doubt that they are bringing more new readers to Sai King by the way they jump off the shelf.

My son and his wife have a collection based around this design incarnation, and the really do look cool with modern decor, and I think the typography is really excellent!

which ones are you talking about? there are two. i'm not a huge fan of the more recent (and plain) editions. more a fan of the original editions with the imprint of new english library.

    Hi,

Thankee for posting these, Speedy, and you can find them all in the link to Hodder on the main site.

I had the opportunity to discuss this 're-branding' with Philippa Pride (Sai King's UK editor) at the dinner in London last year and the highly improved sales figures from casual purchasers that Philippa quoted completely convinced me; if a new cover design brings more people to read the books, then it's just GOT to be a good thing IMO.

The covers are really striking; a collection would look v. cool.

definitely true. my only concern is a selfish one though that now my collection looks messed up lol i guess i'll have to eventually replace the old eitions with the 're-branded' ones. sigh

I have a couple of these, and you are right JD they do grow on you, as it was not so long ago I really hated seeing them in bookshops...but now i'm not so bad.

I still prefer my old beaten up copies though...they have character.

Actually I really don't like these books, but I do have two of them. I go out of my way to order the used paperback or hardback covers from 20 years ago, usually. I always try to get the cover of the book that I like the most. I will probably have a collection of doubles just because I like the different covers. I know it's really naive in a sense that I'm judging a book by it's cover, but I think they give it so much more character, and those old 80's covers just look like something that has been left in the attic in it's mysterious glory and waiting for you to find it. I kind of feel like the covers you've been describing don't give the book enough of a "serious" appeal and it's like it's the marketing of King's name and not the book itself. Saying this, that's why I'm not fond of the comics, either.

I just love something about acceptable condition paperbacks from 20 years ago or so with tanned pages and discolouration. I think it makes it take on a whole character of it's own and it makes me more inclined to pick up the book. The used oldies with hardback original covers are usually the ones I pick and I don't think I'll ever change... they haunt the shelves.
