    Default The Stand "transportation"SPOILERS POSSIBLE

in the stand they mention planes, boats, and just about any other transportation. if this actually happened, i would skip all of that and Go right for the equipment that runs on rails:trains. like for example Larry Could have saved his trip through the lincoln Tunnels if he had instead gone to Grand Central,(I know it would get rid of one of the greatest journeys in the stand, but it would make more sense, even if there was not a train/locomotive that he could "borrow with no intent of returning" he could have walked the Tunnels to get to New jersey
I am srue there are other examples of this, but I just wonder the lack of rail transportation in The stand, btw one of my favorite books.

That is true but you would also have to think... would he know how to run the train?

Also in many spots I'm sure traffic had overtaken the rails and the rail crossings would have been jammed with cars.

It is a good idea, but I don't think a train would get very far, and it would have been much more dangerous.

I see your point, But the odds are pretty decent at least one person in the group would know how to operate one, just be thankfull they are not steamers, otherwise they might have blown themselves up in a boiler explosion.

I disagree, I don't believe many people would have known how to operate a train.

yeah i think more people would know how to fly a plane than to operate a train. If you think of it...alot of people dream of learning to fly and many follow through but not many people dream of running a train. Plus railways must be blocked off by cars trucks and other vehicles. or if the government was blocking off transportation into cities you would think they would block of the trains too. It would be a very dangerous form of transportation in a world like that.

when the Book was first written (1970 something?) Passenger rail was being rebuilt under Amtrak, and Freight service was bad, so Would the government really consider Trains that Much of an issue, since they never cared about them pre plauge?

probably yes since they were just intent on keeping people contained where they were....but who knows
