I thought the movie was boring. The short story was a thousand times better than the drawn-out, two and a half hour long movie- if my memory serves right. It's just that the short story was just a little over fifty pages, and to turn that into a nearly three hour film- if I'm wrong about the time limit, it was because I was bored and I wanted it to end. And what was the deal with the angle of John Cusack going to visit his father?
To sum it up, the short story was way better than the movie. Way better.
This is one of my favorite books as well as movies! I found that they kept almost everything intact that they could have. John Cusack's performance was probably his best as an actor. One of my favs in my SK movie/book collection
to be honest movie is better released that I thought it'll be...but the story give you more chance to work it in you mind...so I prefer stories ever and forever
Perhaps you can help...I just read you post and in my minds eye I saw a door, possibly a hotel room door and the number1408 on it. I think its red.Since my stroke, I often get flashes of a movie or snatches of a memory from my life before this stroke. Question I have is if this door was shown in this movie 1408. I'm not kidding or making a joke here. although I love to joke at times.Other than seeing the door itself, its a blank. This could have been an ad for the upcoming movie or ad for the book perhaps. I just dont know. Also whats the difference betwen post quick reply and go advanced? Thanks in advance

Re: Well what did everybody think of 1408?
Excellent movie. Actually preferred it more than the short story and that doesn't happen often. Sorry.... However, now that I read any of Mr. King's works about a writer I always picture Cusack in the role. Not that that's a bad thing. : )
Just rented this -- pretty decent adaptation of the story. I wasn't quite sure how they were going to deal with the limitations of the story, and I thought it was reasonable. Not a GREAT film. Also far from the worst of the King adaptations. Kinda sad I didn't see it in the theatre now. One problem with it, however: it was a bit long for my taste. A few too many repeated scenes of Enslin reacting after the latest spasm.
I was impressed that someone could make a horror movie that wasn't just torture-porn a la the Saw flicks.
Also liked the nod to "The Ledge" in the film. Now there's a story that I'd resurrect Alfred Hitchcock for.
