    slugabed \SLUHG-uh-bed\, noun:

One who stays in bed until a late hour; a sluggard.

Nemecek's business is not for slugabeds. He opens for business every weekday at 4 a.m.
-- Drew Fetherston, "He Can Really Make Pigs Fly", Newsday, December 12, 1994

I found Oriana, as usual, up before me, for I always was a sad slugabed.
    -- W. Hurton, Doomed Ship

All save Whit elected to sleep in that morning. Whit came back to report that he had spotted the tracks of a doe and a fawn made in the new snow directly beneath my unoccupied stand, and I regretted being a slugabed.
-- "Paying Tribute to Deer in Minnesota Woods", New York Times, December 6, 1998

Slugabed is from slug, "sluggard" + abed, "in bed."

limn (lim) transitive verb, to paint or draw; to portray in words, describe; obsolete, to illuminate (manuscripts).

he limned the scene in the courtroom so perfectly I could practically see it.

    Cockshut
Twilight, the time poultry are shut up for the night.

*My favorite time of the day is cockshut, just after sunset.

*I'm going to write an homage piece to S. Meyer's "Twilight," I'll call it "Cockshut."

I'm posting words from the book, Poplollies & Bellibones, A Celebration of Lost Words. I bought it used a few weeks ago and I am really enjoying it.
I figured I'd share some of the highlights here.

This thread is the best btw! One of my favorites.
So anyhow, I guess I ought to post my next word before cockshut aye?

My word of the day is 143, it stands for I(1) Love(4) You(3). Its a quick way to be cute. Just be careful with 43, ya never know what 4 letter word people are saying to you.

piquant (pē′kənt, -känt, -kwənt) adjective, 1. agreeably pungent or stimulating to the taste; pleasantly sharp or biting; 2. exciting agreeable interest or curiosity; stimulating; provocative

His attitude, contradictory but somehow attractive--almost piquant--was one of glum good cheer.
