Question A homage painting of stephen king

    Hi all.
I was hoping you could help settle a dispute with my husband . It goes like this- as 20 years of being a fan I had an idea of creating a portrait of stephen king ,surrounded by some of his characters after reading a quote of his in a magazine.
My husband found the idea and loved it but the dispute was over which characters to paint.I had intended to paint them as they had been created in my head from the books but as he doesnt read the books but watches the movies he thinks they should resemble the movie characters as nobody might recognise the ones from my head.arrrghhh!
As we are coming at this from total opposites ,I was hoping for additional ideas as to which way to go.Cheers

Its your painting, you do what works for you... It does not matter what others recognize or not. SK will be obviously him, and if you draw the others with tell tale signs from the book then others will realize who they are as well.

Hi paulinekh! I like the idea of painting characters from what's in your head, so..why don't you paint ones that haven't been made into movies yet?
And, tell your husband to read the books! If he likes the movies, he's got to know the books must be better, no?

go from the books and your mind!

the movies usually get it wrong. I am a stickler for detail when it comes to this....i.e. Randall Flag's jacket....he had 2 buttons one on each side..NO more...in the movie he had a collection of several on either side...then in the comic book adaptations he had several as well..why can't they just go by the book? can't they read?

    best,
    Bal

Thanks rose.like all women I had an idea I was right!
My husband wont read the books as the films scare him enough and we know that there is many more depths of terror lurking in the written word!

Go with what YOU know....I would just about be willing to bet that the SK fans will know the characters.

Either way, can we see the painting when you are done? Sounds like a great idea.

Most of the time I don't like the characters that they pick for the movies. Art is from the artist's heart, not from a movie. I say go with what your heart tells you to create and it will turn out great! I think it's a great idea that you have to show what a dedicated fan you are!! The best I could do was to threaten to hold him hostage until he gave up his agent's address and phone number, LOL!! Can't wait to see your painting, will you share a picture of it with us when it's finished??
