    Default Needful Things

I am now just reading Needful Things" again (after a few years), and all of a sudden it occurred to me that our modern society literally is "selling its soul for stuff it doesn't really need, but wants".

Am I reading too much into this?

    Hi,

Yes, I agree completely, a very profound book on the matter IMO.

Have you ever read Henry David Thoreau's seminal 'Walden' on the subject?

My take was that the story was a commentary of human nature (more generally-speaking), and what everyone will do for their own survival. But, materialism can be read into that as well.

Speaking of which.... Any chance King will complete the CANNIBALS story he alluded to in his UNDER THE DOME snippet as a short story or novel--if he hasn't already? I don't mean to sidetrack, but NEEDFUL THINGS was mentioned in his statement about that and it reminded me.

anyone have any thoughts on what the ending means? the ability to destroy him with shadow puppets and magical snakes in a can? i guessed it had to do with unleashing his love for his son to defeat the monster of things that don't really matter...like facing the demons of his memory of their deaths...but could be wrong.
