What's your most irritating NOT word?

Do you ever hear words pronouced by illiterate, slack-jawed, heathens and you just want to smack them?! [you know you do] I feel your pain...

(this thread brought to you by, the irritating CUBE-DWELLERS in my general vicinity at work, DTN)

I can't stand NOT words like "conversate" and it is practically painful to me when people mispronounce things like nuclear, (you know you know what i'm talking about...i can't even spell it...it hurts!!!) or library...

what about you? Which ones are your own personal headaches?!

This is a little different than what you're talking about, but my husband misuses words a lot and it drives me insane. If we get in an argument and I'm, what he considers, "criticizing" him (Not that I ever do this, but...) he says "why are you ridiculing me??" When I'm not "ridiculing" him!!!! Now I'm ridiculing him.

i suppose I should have listed my biggest ones after complaining about them...

conversate is a big one, i can't stand that word, especially when i hear it on TV...
-Nuclear vs Nucular (ouch...the pain...ugh)
-Library vs Libary (that smarts a LOT).
-(my husband will be upset, but...) combinded instead of combined? I mean...come on now!!!

I'm not the word police, but there are some real corkers out there creeping into the common language and it's killing me!!!

I cannot stand it when people say "ex-specially." It's ESpecially. Drive me nuts. And I know this is super anal, but I can't stand it when people say "eggs-actly." Pronounce the "X" please! Silly, I know...

"um"

When elected leaders and people who are paid to speak use such annoying filler noises, I want to choke them. I, completely, miss their message because I start saying "um" everytime they do, to point out how ridiculous they sound.

Well I will keep this short, since I must have a much higher tolerance for words that are used in an inappropriate manner, as long as I know what they mean, really doesn't bother me or give me cause for meltdown,

Illiterate, slackjawed, heathens, pretty harsh for saying a word wrong.

I hate it when I hear people say "Let me axe you a question". Or when people use "irregardless". It's just plain "regardless". There's no need to add extra syllables.

When people ask me "Can I _______?" when they should ask "May I __________!!!!
When they put Me instead I.

One of my worst social characteristics that that I correct peoples mispronunciations. I can't help myself. Also, I am the worst on figuring out s 's or s'.
