Default Recommendations for books that will give me nightmares

    Hello Everyone,

I’m new to Stephen King and to this forum, so I apologise if this question has come up before. I did search for it but I found nothing.

I know different people get scared by different things but what I'm looking for is recommendations for books that have given people nightmares

I have just finished reading Salem's Lot and although I felt it was a little bit dated it still scared me in parts. The chapter of Danny Glicks burial in particular scared me. I was sat in the cafeteria where I work and just as I got the end of this chapter someone sat down at the table next to me an his plate of food dropped on the table. I’m not joking I nearly jumped 5 feet in the air haha its safe to say I felt a little bit silly after that

So…..what Stephen King books gave you nightmares?

    Regards,
    -Ben

There's some scary parts in It, The Shining, i didn't like the end when Jack smashes his own face in with the mallet, not nice.

None King books: The Exorcist, I think that's as powerful as anything you'll ever read. A couple of parts of Amityville were creepy. The Birds, short, but good story. Shirley Jackson's the Lottery, that was awesome.

And of course, Hanzel and Gretel

You might want to use the spoiler button to cover up what Jack did.

I read Others by James Herbert last year, and it left a pretty scarring imprint on my brain. There are a few caveats, however. First, he is British so the writing is kind of flowery if you are used to Stephen King. Second, the first half of it is agonizingly slow. If you can make it through those things to the second half to finish the book, you will definitely be messed up for life!

Basically, an insane genius doctor ties down helpless severely physically and mentally deformed people (think no arms and legs, twisted body shapes, progeria, etc.) so that other more insane and violent severely deformed people can rape and murder them while being filmed for the purposes of distribution to the underground porn world to fund his research.

    IT
    THE GIRL NEXT DOOR-Ketchum
Most novels by Richard Laymon are scary and get pretty messed up in parts and towards the end, LoL.

And you could also give 1984 by Orwell a try, that's all I'm saying.
