Being a pure "X-Phile" I've seen this episode MANY times. I was just wondering if anyone else has.
It's okay...I was really expecting more than a killer doll from SK, but for what it was it was cool. Of COURSE they had to point out that they were in Maine every five seconds (lol), but other than that it was pretty creepy.
Could have been scarier though, but the beginning teaser was sick!
I thought the ending could've been a bit better. Why throw the thing back in the ocean for another fisherman to find, if that's what caused all the trouble in the first place?
I recall that King and Carter didn't see eye-to-eye about the characters of Mulder and Scully, but I always thought the "guest writer" episodes weren't the better ones in the series. I mean, I absolutely love William Gibson's stories, but the two he did felt kinda flat. Same for this one. It could just be that Carter is hard to work with.
I'd love to know how many revisions those three scripts went through, too.
King's original script - not tampered with by Carter - is less Chucky and more Firestarter. Carter didn't find it spooky enough, so it's Carter who made it all more focusing on the evil doll.
Are either scripts available in any books? If not why not ask Mr King to put them up here in a specail section for a price, a guy could chase his uncollected stuff for years and not get far, not complaining, I just love his short story scares. Hope all you guys and gals are well.

Absolutely agree, and one of Gibson's episodes...I think he did "Kill Switch" right? I love that episode, but I know what you mean.
I didn't know the thing about the creative process of this script. I would die to see an episode that was purely King....
I think since it was a Scully episoe I would have liked to see how he'd write Scully.

Would have loved to see that original scrpit filmed
I loved it, but it's greatest flaw was the absence of Mulder. You had him a few moments on the telephone and that was it.
The Maine location was wonderful and also the fact that this wasn't a file they were going to investigate. It just happened to Scully. Like stuff happening to most people in King-novels. She wasn't agent Scully, no she was just Dana, a tourist wanting to breath the fresh Maine sea air.
I saw this episode when it first came out. It's been such a long time since I've seen it I don't really remember what it was about other than something to do with a doll.
Anyone willing to tell the differences between the script Stephen King wrote and the finished episode? (not everything, but the big-things). I would really like to know!
