Default Stephen & Tabitha King are coming for dinner!

Hypothetically...you've just won the lottery (well, um, not that lottery); the SKMB just hosted the first ever "Win a Date with the Kings," and you WON!

Tomorrow night, Mr. and Mrs. King will be arriving at your house for dinner. What do you serve? What do you wear? What do you talk about? What music do you play in the background?

I asked my husband this exact question last night and all he said was, "roast beef with mashed potatoes and gravy."

    How 'bout you?

Hmmm...after I scooped my jaw off the floor and removed my head from the ceiling (where it stuck after my leap of joy), I'd jump in with the planning. What to serve? My signature sirloin tips with mushroom gravy, homemade mashed potatoes, fresh corn, and homemade biscuits.
What do I wear? My nicest jeans and a simple shirt because SK is just an average guy, and you never see him "dressed to the nines" so to speak.
What do I talk about? How much of a fan of his I am, and how much I admire his work. This will be glaringly obvious with one glance at my bookshelf. I would discuss writing and the business side of things, and let him lead the conversation.
What would I play in the background? The Ramones, of course!

    1. Cheeseburgers!
    2. Business casual.
    3. Let the guests lead the conversation, maybe hold a personal anecdote about a favorite book in reserve and deploy it during a lull.
    4. Actually, I'd probably just open the windows rather than play music.

It's gotta be cheeseburgers, though. Everything I know about the Kings indicates that they're down-to-earth people, and that's a pretty rare opportunity for me with a dinner. For once, "fancy" could mean "choice of regular burger, bacon burger, and mushroom-and-swiss burger" instead of messing around with &#%@ wine pairings that I'm going to get wrong anyway, and moronically overpriced roe.

edit: I totally forgot! For # 3, I could also offer to take them to the Dixie Pig (of Alexandria), which can be seen from my apartment.

I would wear jeans............ I agree with your husband ...mashed potatoes and gravy or something simple............talk about whatever they want to talk about I would try not to ask any stupid questions..............music would be a mix of jazz, heavy metal, rap, country etc.........

Macaroni and cheese are on the menu for the evening, or maybe a good ol' lasagna. I wear casual, but clean clothes that are on the nicer side but don't look like I'm attending a wedding or formal business meeting. Music consists of light jazz, or maybe some classical favorites.

There is no limit for what we will discuss. His books and movies will not be a dominant, however, because it seems like that is all that fans ever want to talk with him about. I'd like to get to know him as a person. We can talk of whatever sneaks into the conversation. I'd want to make him feel complete at ease, relaxed and at home, and not at a public interview or something like that. Stephen is a person, and should be treated as such.

Well I would be delighted at winning this lottery and would probably arrange for a river cruise (dinner included for 4). But if they both requested a private dinner at home I would have them over to a friends house.

Because: I do not talk much, cook only what I like to eat, and rarely entertain.

    1. Steak and seafood combo dish (catered)
    2. Comfortable casual attire (NYD or not yet deterimined)
    3. I would try to just be spontaneous on conversation
    4. Instead of music, we might try out some games (trivia pursuit, yard darts) after dinner. (I mentioned I am not much of a talker )

Grill up some burgers and listen to him bitch about Brad Penny still being in the starting rotation and Clay Buchholz still being in the minors.

Maybe got out and smoke a cigar after dinner and play some guitar or just throw on the Grateful Dead which he would appreciate.

Then force him to watch the Cubs until the game is over.

Default oh, I like this game!

I'd wear jeans, serve our family's beef stew, play good old rock - but the quiet kind, and talk about books, what else?
And I am blushing to tell it (but hey - if I can't share this with my fellow fans, who can I share it with?), but I often imagine myself winning the lottery (I don't even fill out any) and offer Mr. King to donate a large sum to any of his favorite charity organizations if he will only join me for dinner or lunch, Hell, I'll settle fore coffee.
    Am I terribly lame?
