IMHO The Tell Tale Heart is one of the best short stories ever written. And I still remember every word to his poem The Conqueror Worm. Happy Birthday to a great talent who happened to be a very unhappy man. Did y'all know that he was the first well-known American writer to earn a living solely by writing? (Unfortunately, he was also quite poor.)

    EAP is 200?

Man, that dude has been keeping one seriously low profile for the last 160 years. I actually thought that he had died.

I wonder if he might share his longevity secrets with me. There is so much I still want to see and do. One life somehow never seems enough.

I just read The Masque of the Red Death last week by Poe (Sai King referenced it in The Shining which propmted me to read it). It has one of the most brilliant last lines of a story I have ever read:

And Darkness and Decay and the Red Death held illimitable dominion over all.
Gives me chills every time I read it.
