    Question The Langoliers?

Hi. I am new! I too fall on the side of loving The Langoliers. I never understood the title though. How did it originate? Anybody know? I mean I get how it played into the story but where did SK get that - an invention? Please solve this haunting mystery for me!

Dear Moderator, sincere thanks! I get so much pleasure from the details and nuances in SK's work and that one has been bothering me for a while. Truly, thank you.

A langolier is a type of large orb shaped omnivorous organism, belonging to the genus pac man. They have huge mouths that make up almost half their entire bodies, and lined with several rows of extremely sharp chainsaw-like teeth.

The langolier's diet consists mainly of things from the past. It's also been suggested that langoliers tend to eat lazy humans who don't apply themselves.

Langolier's also exist in different dimensions, therefore all who wander outside of their dimension to another one, ultimately get eaten by langoliers.

Love that story. But the ending was a little too Twilight Zone for me.

Good story. I didn't think I'd like it so much, having seen the film version first (and thinking it started promisingly and ended up being a bit daft, iirc), but I was wrong. I enjoyed it a lot.
    And what's wrong TZ?

Definitely my favourite Stephen King short(ish) story. I even thought the (made for TV?) film was pretty good, too and I've watched it a few times. It's waaaay superior to a lot of his low budget adaptations, and also the big budget and terrible film verion of Dreamcatcher.

i been re-reading this one and one of the best ideas to ever come down the pike is 'forgetfulness'. i got it, big time. can't for the life of me remember exactly how it came out in the end and i'm looking forward to the ending. one thought on the langoliers. they're red and black. does that mean male and female? yin and yang? sane and insane? which is which? troubled though. gonna be taking a plane ride a bit over a week from now and i've got a bad feeling about it. we're due i guess. that or maybe it be the animal in me, sensing something. guess i better put my papers in order, hey? through out all the posters of tom cruise showing his navel. just call me angel of the morning. flying west. coulda been east. but all that traffic. no way hoosay
