Default Don't You Forget About Me

    Hi everybody.

It is now a full two years since three-year-old Madeleine McCann was abducted from a holiday resort in Portugal, and the trail appears to have gone cold.

As the father of a beautiful daughter who is almost exactly the same age as Madeleine was when she was taken, I can barely imagine the torment that Kate and Gerry McCann must live through each day.

As most of you may know, a picture was released last week of how Madeleine might look today. She could, in theory, be just about anywhere in the world, so it is incumbent upon all of us to familiarise ourselves with this new image, in the hope that somebody, someday, may provide the breakthrough that helps to reunite this beautiful young girl with her desperate family.

That poor family. My thoughts and prayers are with them. What constant torment and pure hell these years must have been on them. I pray God blesses them and reunites their family.

I hope parents everywhere took note that you don't leave small children alone in hotel rooms or in hotels, period. Whenever my husband and I travel, I am always surprised at the young children running around hotels without any adults in sight. At our last hotel stay, a little girl who didn't look more than six knocked on our door; she had gotten confused and couldn't find her room.

That's really frightening; thank God she knocked on your door and not on that of some creep.

Too many things have happened that make me suspect the parents in this case. I hope I'm wrong, I hope she's out there alive and will be returned to them, but I just don't see it happening.

Aye, it's like King stated about a missing person. With a death, you know it's final. But with a missing person, it's like watching something going down a drain slow. It takes a longer time to get over, because it's impossible to let go of that glimmer of hope, that she might be okay and return to you someday.

I was told an interesting story the other day. I was under the assumption, because of something stated to me that seems to have been retracted, that one of my family names came over on the Mayflower. Well, that wasn't the case, it was actually on the Bevis, some time around 1640.

My family researched their history at one point, and we found we had a relative that had went missing. He was around the age of 8 when he vanished, and he had been gone so long, the immediate family had already named one of their later born under his name. When we got to america, back in sometime around 1640, we found the boy. I don't know much more than that, but he had been living here for some time.

So who honestly knows when someone goes missing. I believe in our bodies only housing our spirits for a limited time, so if your missing friend is dead, she's no worse off than she could otherwise be. Cheers to her health and comfortable existence though, wherever she might be.

I don't see this having a happy ending either, but why do you suspect the parents? In the wake of the sad death of Caylee Marie, its so easy to point to parents first, but do you really think they took her out of country to kill her? ???

I don't think they took her there to kill her. I suspect it was accidental, and they covered it up.

From following the story in the news since it happened, I think this website has a pretty credible list of why many people suspect the parents. http://madeleinefoundation.org/main/30-reasons/

    Like I said, I hope I'm wrong.

It's all too easy to blame the parents when there is a lack of progress in a case like this, but I don't share the view that they are involved.

The trouble is that the Portuguese authorities are less motivated than people in the UK would want them to be. The story has often returned to front-page news in Madeleine's own country, but the average person in Portugal (and just about everywhere else for that matter) has all but forgotten the whole incident. It would be similar here in the UK if a Portuguese child had gone missing whilst over here on holiday. We'd probably shake our collective heads and ask rhetorically "Is this the way that Portuguese parents look after their kids? Little wonder that she's been abducted."

So, I think that the McCanns are having to battle against apathy in Portugal, and I'm sceptical about whether Madeleine is still alive, but I don't beleieve that the parents are implicated.
