    Default Pronunciation help

My brother is giving his daughter the middle name Oriza from The Wolves of the Calla, but we're not sure how to pronounce it. We think it's Oh-rye-za, with the accent on the second syllable. Anybody got any ideas?

    Hi,

Welcome to the MB, and keep posting!

That's exactly how I've always pronounced it too, congrats to your brother - lovely name IMO.

    Long days and pleasant nights

I always sort of thought it would be Or-izz-ah although he can probably pronounce it however he likes it best. It does make a cool name!

I'm pretty sure that it's pronounced "Oriza".

    Hope this helped.

I had thought that it was Or-E-za, with a short i instead of a long i. But now that I think about it, I like yours better.

why not let the daughter decide when the time is right? everyone can look forward to the day when she pronounces herself. mark the occasion with celebration. another day on the calendar to look forward to each year.

I think you got it right with "oh-RYE-za." Maybe Stephen could give us the official pronunciation if Ms. Mod asked.

I think this is an awesome idea, though. Maybe she'll even grow up to be a professional razor-sharp-dinner-plate-thrower.

If I remember correctly from the audio books I think it was Oh-rye-za, as you said.
