Default The worst novel you have ever read.

Hey evreyone I was wondering what are some of the worst books you have read are. The worst book I have ever read is definitely Joshua by father Josph Girzone. It is a religious novel having to do with a modern day Jesus coming into a small town. The messege in the book is nice: be freindly to your neighbor accept people of all diffrent religions and things like that. The problem with the book is that it is terribly written, the book reads like one that is written for a four year old. On top of that is horrible unrealistic dialogue Even worse then those two things is that the plot does not make sence at times.

Has anyone else read a book like this and want to warn people on the boards not to read them? if so please reply.

Although I normally love classics, I hated with a passion - The Scarlett Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne.

I'm gonna have to go with Moby Dick. I have a deep appreciation for the classics, but that one was plain torture. I simply don't get the status of it.

My better half (LOL) just bought me a book last night at CVS. It was a desperate move since finishing Lisey's Story and a risk not picking out a new book myself. I'm never one to "knock" an author; you have to applaud anybody's efforts to be creative, but boy, what I got is brutal. It's "Hand of Evil," by JA Jance. I'm only about 20 pages in, but I don't think I'll be able to finish it. The only other book I recall never finishing was "Under the Tuscan Sun." Not because it was the "worst," per se, but just because it bored me big time.

"Jane Eyre". I loved British Literature as my advanced English course, but that stinker sucked the wind right out of my sails.

Heinlein's "Number of the Beast" was a terrible disappointment, too. I may have expected too much from him by the time I read that.

For me it has to be 'The Quickie' by James Patterson. My dad was given the book by a co-worker and I wanted to read something new so I tried it. I felt absolutely no sympathy or connection with the main character and found myself hoping that her stupid decisions would catch up with her in a fatal way.

i can think of a few (or more) but i don't remember titles. maybe if i saw them on a shelf again i'd recognize them. aren't we s'posed to 'treasure the bad' for reasons understood by most if not all? easier said than done, hey? like the girl (or boy) in class who never got acne and flips one day cause they have a canker on their lip? meanwhile, you harken back to the day when they tried to cheer you about about the moon condition of your complexion by saying something witty like, look at so and so, they don't let it get them down, and look at what they look like! but yea, read a few made me wonder who's sleeping with who, or is it whom? one was all dialogue, no sense of place, maybe it was scribbled in the margin and never made it to the final copy. "the pantry" that particular story was one of many this 'author' had in their column. no details. isn't the truth in the details? dunno. i can think of a few by a well-known writer (and i like some of his other stuff) and you can see a clear progression from bad to good so maybe there's hope after all.

When I was a younger kid maybe 6-7th grade I had to read My Friend Flicka and give a report on it which was absolute torture for me. All I can remember is it was about a horse and that's it. I just remember it was grueling trying to read 20-30 pages a night to get it done in time to have my report finished on time. Terrible. I didn't want to read about horses. I wanted ghosts, witches, vampires and weird swamp creatures when I was that age.

PRODIGAL SUMMER-- an ecological soap opera, not much more ; (POISONWOOD BIBLE, on the other hand, is infinitely better).

Angels & Demons by Dan Brown. It was contrived, implausible and stupid.
