Default "The Shining" Movie or Mini series?

What did you like better? Say if you read the book or not.

I liked both. Kubrick's film was far enough away from the book that you appreciate it on it's own merits. And King was in the position to make version of his own vision.

Holy crap!!! There was a t.v. mini-series? Where the heck have I been? For those that have seen it..How does it compare to the movie and the book? And, how much different is the movie to the book? I've resisted reading the book cause I've seen the movie, and remember if fairly well. If the movie is considerably different..I'd like to give the book a try.

    Hi,

Read it before the Kubrick movie came out and I intially hated the movie because it wasn't The Shining, though I was a big fan of Kubrick and Nicholson's.

But I later grew to appreciate it for its own merits, i.e a great movie.

The mini-series is far more accurate to the book but somehow comes off as slightly dull and uninspired directing, after Kubricks IMO.

So, as Matheson's 'I Am Legend' has been filmed three times without ever being filmed properly, I think The Shining hasn't been perfectly filmed yet.

    Long days and pleasant nights

Doesn't get much better than Nicholson and Kubrick, so I go with that version. Know that it deviated from the book a bit which I hated, but was still wonderful. Liked the mini-series also, but didn't seem to have the same punch.

    AWJS

It has taken me a long time to appreciate Kubrick's version, but it does have its good points. Love Jack Nicholson--almost always

Stanley Kubrick made a great (not to mention classic) movie, even if he changed a lot from the book. The miniseries was true to the story, and I thought it was good, but not particularly outstanding. It's hard to say which is better, because I think Kubrick's version took out most of the paranormal aspect which was my favorite part...

I'd have to say the book is my favorite version of the story by far.
