    Default Health Related Issues

I want to start this thread for any health related issues. As with the recent attack of the Swine Flu I am grateful that I do not eat pork, as well as red meat.

It has been over a year now and I do it simply because it's healthier for you.

Has anybody ever had, or known of someone to have a tapeworm?

You can carry the worm for years and not even know it and it hides in raw and uncooked meat and poultry.

I have not gone completley off meat since I do eat chicken and fish but I am trying to adjust to a vegetarian lifestyle.

Has anybody seen the video "Meet Your Meat" ? .. if not check it out on you tube..

but basically.. I used to be a great meat lover and now I can't even look at it without being disgusted and I have also seen changes in my digestive system and I feel alot healthier.

Have you ever read The Jungle by Upton Sinclair? It's a real eye opener on the early meat packing industry.

My nephew got ring worm from a cat. (on his head) No tape worms though, i was always taught to make sure pork was cooked at the proper temperature. Took a Health Unit course on food preparation and learned a lot. I don't like red meat or pork. Do some times eat hamburger and roast , roast is usually a safe meat to eat. Pork doesn't taste that great to me. I to usually eat fish, and chicken. Or just veges. I would like to go vegan. but the rest of my family eat meat like lions.

I'm glad you're happy with your diet but please understand that you can still contract the Swine Flu even if you don't eat pork or other meats. I've seen the vid . . .I still eat meat. Haven't had a cold in seven years and my BMs are very regular, never get sick. I don't eat fast food and prepare most all my meals and avoid caffeine.

Well you can not get swine flu from eating pork, but I agree 100% with you. I eat very little meat and no dairy products or eggs. If I do have meat, it is a small portion of chicken or fish just like you. I do feel healthier and have lost a lot of weight, but the best thing is that my cholesterol went down 75 points. Since I have taken on a healthier lifestyle I have sooooo much more energy and have started doing things that I once enjoyed again. It has been a long time. I lost my thyroid 4 or so years ago and put on weight. I figured there was nothing I could do about it. But then I spoke to my doctor and he told me that if I wanted to change my health, it was up to me. I probably have to work harder than most people and watch what I eat a bit more due to my thyroid condition, but it has been so worth it.

Hey, I'm irish and only go vegetarian when dieting. Ham and beef are culturally a staple, but you have to know how to prepare it. Mad cow disease frightens me more then getting swine flu from pork.

Healthwise everyone should consider this about vegetables and fruit; fertilizer for gardens is often just Manure (animal). So wash your vegetables.

And ask a farmer about what goes on before food hits the restaurant, or grocery store. (nothing like a swine flu infected migrant worker (without health care) coughing on your veggies ) Would be politically incorrect to assume that migrant workers are from mexico?

There are very few farmers talking to Epidemiologist so this chain of infection might be overlooked (or already prevented)

I want to stay health to. But I do not want to be a fearmonger just because I do not know enough of the facts.

Here's a pic of a tapeworm that was found in a dog. Yucko! When I was in nursing school one of my instructors had said that swallowing a tapeworm was actually a popular form of dieting at one time. Grrrrrroooossss!!!! The only problem was how do you get rid of em after you've lost the amount of weight that you wanted. In a lot of cases they had to have them surgically removed.
    Cripes man...can you imagine?

What was a cat doing on your nephew's head? (FYI: Ringworm isn't really caused by worms; it's a fungal infection.)
