Default Original 'Salem's Lot TV miniseries

    A true story--
I met the actor who played Danny Glick (Brad Savage) at a wedding a couple months after the TV miniseries was rerun. He was an usher. Seeing him in a dark suit and tie, just like on the show, was ubercreepy. I kept expecting him to float up to me, whispering in his raspy voice. Or to perhaps burst into flames as he was walking around the church!

    Another true story--
The night Part 1 first aired back in '79, my parents were gone for the evening. I invited my neighbor over to watch Lot because I really wanted to see it and didn't want to watch it alone. When it was over, we were eating pizza when we heard scratching on the window. In my overstimulated imagination, it sounded like it was coming from above us--my bedroom. Terrified, I crawled over (literally, on the floor) to the sliding glass door and threw open the curtains...to find his sister standing there clawing the glass with a big smile on her face. She thought it was so funny that she scared the crap outta her brother and me.

    I love that miniseries.

    Hi,

I would have preferred someone else rather than David Soul though.

    Long days and pleasant nights

The first time this mini-series came on, I was alone in my apartment. I had all the lights off and was ready to watch. Before the first hour was over, I had every light in the place blazing. I just love a good scare.

John - I am not a big David Soul fan, either. He just did not fit the picture of Ben I had formed in my mind.

    Hey John

You still haven't forgiven old Hutch for "Silver Lady" obviously.

You gotta love that guitar riff, have you not?

My Mom met David Soul sometime back in the 70s when she worked part time at an antique store in Alexandria, Va. Seems I remember her telling me back then he had bought a condo there at the time and he stopped in and made several purchases.
Don't remember exactly what year that was as that decade is a little fuzzy to me now

Did you mom meet him before or after "Starskey and Hutch" fame? I imagine after, because she probably wouldn't know him otherwise. Now did he but a condo, or...the Marsten House?

Well regardless of wether David Sould was right or not I've always been fond of the first mini-series. It scared me when it first aired. I was eleven and I had never seen anything like that on prime-time television. Of course I have seen it in the past couple of years and it did age somewhat. But that dosen't matter. It's like The Omega Man. Nostolgia is a powerful thing. The remake was pretty slick and had higher production standards, but it's hard to compete with childhood memories.

That is so funny! If you dig back into my first posts, I told the story of reading Pet Sematary. I was in what I think is the most terrifying part of the book when Louis is going up to the Sematary by himself and heard scratching outside my bedroom window. Ultimately I looked out and saw two beady little eyes glowing back at me. Scared the CRAP out of me!!!!!!! (turned out to be a racoon mommy and her babies, btw)

Sounds like an awesome experience. We had to walk a friend home one night after watching the Fog and guess what it was extremely foggy, good thing we had our dog with us.
