So, Dan's latest novel: The Lost Symbol is coming out in September. I have not started the series yet, though. He recently said he has ideas for at least 12 future books for the series. Im getting on board now! What should I expect?!

Expect terrible writing but the books are entertaining nonetheless if you take them with a grain of salt. If you like National Treasure, you'll like it. It's pure brain candy, and it's overhyped because of the whole Catholic Church response to it, which is somewhat amusing to follow. In 2005, SK compared Dan Brown to the intellectual equivilant of Kraft Mac and Cheese. The NY Times book Review once described the Da Vinci Code as "Dan Brown's best-selling primer on how not to write an English sentence."
Still, there is a reason why the books are popular. The story is intriguing enough if you suspend disbelief even more than usual. I wouldn't reccomend it to anyone looking for a "good booK" but if you just want to read something that allows you to put your brain on autopilot (which we all do once in a while) then read it. If you're looking for good writing, however, look somewhere else.
Alot!! Start with Angels & Demons despite what the movies say and how they come out chronologically it is before Davinci Code. if possible get the illustrated versions of the books they both deal very heavly in art. I went to school for art and I did not even know about alot of the pieces they were talking about! They do a good job of describing each peice but there is nothing like actually seeing it. Personally I like Angels & Demons better. it was more of a roller coaster ride all thru Rome where the Code was certainly interesting and exciting it was mostly Langdon figuring things out in his head
more controversey?
more attacks from the church?
Angels and Demons is a great story, far better than the more publicized Da Vinci Code. These are definitely page-turners. I think you'll enjoy the series.
I'm looking forward to The Lost Symbol, so long as Brown does not go the way of Harris with his Hannibal Lector series, where in the end it seemed he was writing to capitalizing on the Hannibal following and the stories lost their luster.
What should you expect? As a reading thinkery person you should expect to be inundated with Brown's great sales numbers. ('DaVinci' I could barely get through but I really liked 'A&D' so I am, as always, unbiased and a great juror.)
What should you expect. Not even considering his previous work (but definitely considering its impact on the market), you can expect a whole lot of BEESWAX or BULLSHIT if the Mod allows the second word in favor of the former.
I hope Brown can pull it off, I like the breakneck, can't-put-it-down pace he sometimes creates. Not a huge fan. But I'm not an un-fan.

I read "Da Vinci" when I was younger and honestly enjoyed it. Good suspense and puzzle's. I picked up "Angels and Demons" here recently so I could read it before the movie came out and was immediately suprised by the amature writing. Seriously, the first chapter I was just thinking, "this is as simple as James Patterson."
But, much like Patterson at his best, despite the crummy writing and simple characters, Dan Browns books can be fun reads, offering excitment and non-stop action. And, if you are into History "theories", they are also good.
I've also listened to Brown's "Deception Point" on audio book, and it was pretty good for the first half, and then kinda lost my interest.
If you've read enough Stephen King ( or any other author worth a darn ) you'll recognize the bad writing, but you may appreciate the story.
Hi,
Just saw the trailer, it looked very good, but then trailers always do.
Personally, I thought that they totally failed to bring the undeniable pace of Da Vinci Code to the screen, and I wonder if they'll do any better with Angels and Demons?
Long days and pleasant nights
i'm just glad that i read his books b4 Ron Howard destroyed (and i like Ron Howard alot) and before all the hype of the church.
