Just After Sunset discontinued?

I know I should have picked this up earlier but I quickly went to Target to purchase the book and they told me it was discontinued.

I've also gone to Wal-Mart where I've seen the book before and now, there are no copies..

What's going on??

I know the book isn't that old so why are most stores not carrying it?

I was in a Wal-Mart the other day and they had several copies. And Amazon still has it available.

I saw it recently, well a week ago, in a Barnes & Noble.

"Out of stock' maybe, but discontinued? I wouldn't think so, either. I'm pretty sure I saw a copy at my Target about a week or two ago. Try a local bookstore perhaps?

i think most dept store chains like wal mart target k mart only keep them on the shelves for a limited amount of time maybe 6 months to a year and then the distributor buys the reamining copies that didnt sell at a cost and the stores just write it off if that makes since im sure bookstore chains like borders and barnes and noble still have it

yeaaa man I wanted to punch that dorky kid in the face when he said it was discontinued. I knew he was wrong but the fact that there were no copies anywhere enraged me!!

Maybe he just meant that Target discontinued selling them, not that the publisher discontinued selling them.

If you have a Hastings near you, see if they have it. I bought mine "used" for half-price at one.

Plus more often than not, Hastings will have a few first-edition King hardbacks very cheap.

Not to be a wet blanket, but don't buy books from Target, anyway. Seriously. Wal-Mart already exerts pressure on what people can record in their music, because otherwise Wal-Mart won't sell it, and the studios can't deal with that. The last thing we want to do is give that kind of power over to publishers of mainstream books. And while he often doesn't feel that way when you're reading him, Stephen King is pretty much the epitome of a mainstream author, these days.

Weird little books that only odd people (like me) buy will always be safe (provided anyone bothers to publish them at all), because Target, Wal-Mart, etc., will never care about them, but Stephen King books could, theoretically, be vulnerable to pressure from corporate retail weenies (perhaps responding to Christian Fundamentalist boycott threats, or whatnot).
