Does anyone have any tips re moving house. We are doing so tomorrow and there are so many things to remember. I just wondered if anyone had any experiences or advice to help things go as smoothly as possible.

Found these tips that might be helpful:
· Pack a box of things you'll need as soon as you arrive at your new home. (This might include non-aerosol cleaning supplies, disposable plates and cups, light tools, snacks, bathroom items and trash bags.)
·Take this box with you or have the driver load it last and unload first.
My best advice is to, no matter what happens, stay as relaxed and calm as possible. true, you will have a ton of labor to do, but getting anxious or worried will only cast you into a moving day Hell. Think of it as a fun thing, and be sure to remember where your pots and pans are.

Moving...smooth...
Just keep a roll of towlet paper handy...it always comes in handy when pulling up to the new house!!!
When we moved a few years ago we rented a storage unit. A couple of months before we left we started bringing stuff to the storage unit a little bit at a time. We started with the things we didn't need right away and things we don't use much. That was all in the back. As we got closer to the date of the move, our old house was pretty much cleaned out.
When we got to the new place, we did the same thing in reverse. The process took place over a period of 6 or 7 months but it was fairly stress free.
Label each and every box as to what room they go in. Label important stuff (toiltries, night clothes, linens, ect) and unpack those first. Also, plan to eat take out for at least the first night and simple foods the next day.
From my personal experience, moving a short distance: try to get everything in one trip. You won't save any money the other way, and it's sheer torture to have to go back to the old place several times.
Re Moving a home? Yeah, I got one...
Get a sledge you're really comfortable with. Save the toilet and sink for last.![]()
Anything you are not wanting the movers to pack in the moving van needs to be placed in a location they can't get to. Put in an empty room with a sign on the door saying not to enter/pack or something along those lines. We've known people who've found bags of trash packed up, pets packed up (cats in wardrobes and such), or their personal items they planned on taking with them all packed up and in the van. yikes!
