Default Stephen King, Author, Screenwriter, MOPAR enthusiast?

Hi all! New here, so this may have been discussed at some point already but I've just read the Tommyknockers and my suspicions about senyower ( That's "sai" in redneck speak. Not my official language by any means but since I'm posting about cars I thought I'd give it a go.) King's automobile preference and It seems to be MOPAR!!! For those of you out there who are not cursed with this particular obsession like Mr. King and myself, the acronym MOPAR refers to all things chrysler (dodge, chrysler, plymouth, jeep, eagle and yes even some amc, though we MOPAR heads rarely acknowledge the gremlin or pacer). yes i realize that mopar is not a true acronym and that i've stopped capitalizing anything but it happens to be 3:34 in the a.m here in el cerrito californiyaa (redneck speak again, sorry). i've read many stephen king books that have reference to chrysler products, christine being the most noteable, but the tommyknockers took the cake with just about every vehicle in the damn book being mopar. i wouldn't be terribly surprised if the spaceship even had a pentastar logo somewhere on it. it seems very fitting to me that mr. king would be a mopar junkie because those of us out there who are mopar enthusiasts are a strange and not entirely stable group of people. this instability manifests itself in our obsessing over finding a headlight bezel for a 1970 gtx to the point where we start to ignore our personal hygiene or fly into an uncontrollable rage when we see a '72 duster 340 in a plum crazy purple paintjob when we know damn well that wasn't a factory option!! You ford or gm people can build your cars completely out of catalogues if you want to but us godforsaken mopar guys ( and gals ) have to go out into the middle of the desert in arizona or nevada and spend 6 hours in a junkyard all wild eyed and laughing maniacally to find our parts. i guess mopar people are just masochists and wierdos but god damnit, we have a fine upstanding person like stephen king in our ranks. ok, he's more than likely a masochist and a wierdo too but....... yeah so there! anywhoo, i'm sure these messages are supposed to be shorter and that nobody really gives a haypenny what kind of car mr. king digs but again, i'm new here and it's now 4:01 am (i type with one finger) so cut me some slack will ya. no really, will ya? well thanks for listening.

I must admit, I too am a Mopar nut. We have a 68 Plymouth Sport Satellite and a 65 Chrysler New Yorker. I can completely relate to your insanity. If you have ever been to a classic car show, you will notice the Mopar nuts stick together. Not only are they the most expensive to get parts for, they are real buggers to keep running well. But the trophies keep rolling in....

right on!! does the new yorker have the elusive 413 engine? are you gonna keep the satelite a satelite (i hope so ) or make a roadrunner clone? thanks for responding by the way. i've never been on any kind of message board or anything like that. i thought for sure it was gonna be some kind of exclusive clique and i was going to get laughed at in some kind of computer language that i wouldn't understand. nothing worse for the self esteem than being rejected by a bunch of people you don't know or will ever meet or have any real bearing on your life whatsoever! lol! ( is that even right? i think i saw it on a t-shirt somewhere.). anyway, thanks man.

terribilini, I don't know when I've enjoyed reading a post more, and being a car enthuthiast like you enhanced my appreciation of your enthusiasm. I one of the dreaded GM guys, but it doesn't dampen the fact that I truly understand the part MOPAR plays in automobile history. My '69 Firebird made me miss a couple of showers too. Thank you, from the bottom of my muscle car heart, for making my evening .

My dad is a big MOPAR nut, and his first car ironically enough was the same car that was featured in Christine. I wonder why that was my dad's favorite SK book ha ha! He instilled it in me because I always get excited when a Road Runner drives by
