The book was the inspiration for the film - so it makes sense to read the book first.

It always fascinates me to see how someone else interprets something. How someone else can create a set of visuals so different from your own based on the same source material (take the two film versions of The Shining for example).

That said, John Carpenter (Christine's director) could film paint dry and I would still pay to see it - the man is a legend!

i LOVE the film of 'christine' - i was just watching it the other day, it's fantastic, i love john carpenter - eerie, spooky, stark, but also dated enough to be quite funny (particularly in the first half). i want to know how they filmed the big climactic scene toward the end that probably blew their whole special effects budget though - it's wild!

i actually saw the film first, years ago, and that's what made me get the book (and it was the first SK book i ever read, actually, so i'm very attached to both film and book). i didn't think seeing the film first spoiled anything because the film cuts out half the plotline, so reading the book was like approaching something totally fresh and different anyway.

Definitely read the book first. They change a lot of stuff around for the movie that was better set in the book, in my opinion.

I watched the film for the first time the other day and i wasn't overly impressed. Not too bad compared to some adaptations but as always, the movie can't compare to the quality of the book.

The book is definitely better. They simplified it too much in the movie, so much they could have put in that really would have freaked people out.

As usually the case - the book is way better than the films. I find that the opposite is only very VERY seldom true.

The book is by far better than the movie, although the movie is okay. The book delves you straight into Arnie's, Dennis's and at times, Roland LeBay's minds and it's very important to know what they're thinking. The movie cannot do this.

    Please read the book first!
