Default What is the BEST intro or opening track on an Album

    Hi, Another BEST OF survey!
While listening to the radio today, A phone-in grabbed my attention so I thought I'd share it with the MB. The station asked listeners to call-in with their suggestions for the Best intro or opening track on a music album.

The most popular turned out to be Welcome to the Jungle by G&R.

A few of my favourites were mentioned, so here goes...

Smells like Teen Spirit Nirvana on Nevermind
The Everlasting Manic Street Preachers on This is My Truth Tell Me Yours
Where the Streets Have No Name U2 on The Joshua Tree
Hells Bells AC/DC on Back in Black
    Going Under Evanescence on Fallen

    What are your suggestions????

    Enter Sandman - Metallica
    Ace of Spades - Motorhead

There are thousands of great intros out there, but this isn't even a difficult question for me. In over thirty years of listening to rock music, nothing comes close to "Backstreets" by Bruce Springsteen from his "Born to Run" album.

It's a long and melodic intro, with a pervading sense of sadness and drama, that just screams out that an epic song and an epic story will surely follow. And it doesn't disappoint. "Backstreets" is the ultimate musical tale of love, innocence, dashed hopes and betrayal.

In fact, I reckon that SK could probably turn it into a compelling novella

    Intolerance - Tool from Undertow

It starts out making some revving noise. Like someone trying to start a pull string to an outboard motor.

    Varrooo. Varrrooo. Varrrrrrrrrrrr...

then in comes exploding dark rhythm, driving force, and obvious angst and anger, with dark and dirty and driven lyrics too.

    I dont wanna be hostile.
    I dont wanna be dismal.
And I dont wanna rot in an
    Apathetic existence.
    See I wanna believe you,
And I wanted to trust you.
And I want to have faith to.
    Put away the daggers.

But you lie, cheat, and steal, and I tolerate it.
You lie, cheat, and steal I cannot tolerate it.

This works amazingly for the album. Like it was a living crawling hating thing, and which goes on to properly characterize the album in it's entirety.

I got bunches of 'em, but "In the Beginning/Lovely To See You" on the Moody Blues (1969?) album "on The Threshold Of a Dream", has always been a favorite of mine!
