The house which was used to represent the fictional Rose Red house is a bed and breakfast known as Thornewood located in Lakewood, Washington. Parts of the house were computer generated as well as incorporating sets constructed off-site for the conservatory, perspective room and other areas of the house. The house which Stephen loosely used as inspiration for the story of Rose Red is the Winchester house in California built by descendants of the Winchester Rifle Company.

There is actually a house with a similar story. It was built by the Widow Winchester when she moved to either Northern California or Oregon I can't remember. Supposedly the spirits of the people her husband and son killed forced her to keep building on to the house.

Thank you Ms Mod. It is nice to have what I was told years ago, confirmed. I am originally from the West coast (Oregon) and have visited the Winchester House. It is truly amazing. I can see what inspired Mr King. They did a great Job on the movie. I didnt miss a part of it

Loved the movie! The spin off book was good, too, although disappointed it wasn't written by SK himself. Or was it????? Evil chuckle, heh heh heh

I took a tour of the Winchester mansion two weeks ago. It was amazing! You can feel the desperation and sadness in the place, especially on the third floor. That poor woman....she was so lonely.

The connection to Rose Red is pretty clear when you're in the mansion.
