    Unhappy Spoilers?

Does anyone have any idea why SK has such a distinct attitude/opinion toward spoilers?

What I mean, from his comments and inferences it seems that he is of the opinion that people who don't want points revealed or endings ruined aren't within their rights to feel that way.

Has he been harassed by fans in the past for giving away some of his own endings, perhaps? I just can't imagine why anyone (especially an author, come on!) would be so catty about people who guard their right to enjoyment of the full body of work to it's conclusion.

    Anyone know?

    Thanks!

I've been meaning to ask him that same question for some time now as it seems to contradict his feelings about people who peek at the ending.

Yeah, I got the same feeling. It's a bit of contradiction. In his Harry Potter-review, he does give away something about this, I think. I think he's got some irritation with critics that don't or can't do their work properly. Don't do in depth evaluation, but in their hurry to get their columns publiced only go superficial on the story.

The fact that some books are guarded with lives to maintain secrecy untill release (like HP) does not help. When critics get copies in advance, the chance of revelations increases big times, but it gives people the chance to do their work properly. So, I think part of the point is the fact that in depth critism is prohibited by obsessive savekeeping of "secret's".
Another part is, I think, that a good review reviews the whole book, in all it's beauty. Writing a good review is an art in itself and almost always includes spoilers of some kind.

And maybe it just that when talking about a book, SK wants to be able to talk about the whole book, not just the beginning. It's his work.

You'll let us know what he says, please?

Maybe he isnt impressed by the degree of indiginity expressed by readers in certain cases....maybe he likes to discuss a book he or another writer wrote without having to worry about the fact that someone within hearing distance or reading distance ,if it is online, may hear the ending before reading the story.

Books that have been out for decades and still have to be treated as spoilers cause someone in the room hasnt read it yet since it was written twenty years ago....stuff like that may have caused his reaction. Just a thought....

Yeah, that's about the same I was trying to point out in my last paragraph. Writers too should be able to discuss their work, especially when it has been published a while ago.

But I know I don't like spoilers a lot. I'm just discovering the work of SK. Well not entirely true, I've read quite a bit, but there's so much. And sometimes it can be annoying that there are spoilers publiced without much thought. I'm not old enough to have read the books when they came out, so for me they are "new".

Read the foreword to The Green Mile.

He explains it there very well.

I don't read spoilers for books I haven't read yet. Why? It takes the fun out of reading in my opinion. I never look at the ending before I get there because I don't want to know until the time comes.

I still have no idea what Under the Dome is about. I know nothing about any theories or stories lines that anyone has put forth. I'll find out what its about when I read it.
